Herndon (4-3, 1-2 Concorde) at Loudoun Valley (4-3, 1-2 Cedar Run), 7:30 p.m. Friday
Last Week: Herndon lost to Oakton, 38-13; Loudoun Valley beat Stonewall Jackson, 16-10 (OT)
PowerPoints: Herndon – 8th (Div. 6); Loudoun Valley – 7th (Div. 6, Northwest, 12 teams)
Offensive Rank (Pts/Game): Herndon – 5th (Div. 6); Loudoun Valley – 5th (Div. 6, Northwest)
Defensive Rank (Pts/Game): Herndon – T12th (Div. 6); Loudoun Valley – 8th (Div. 6, Northwest)
A victory over a four-win opponent would do wonders for the playoff hopes of both Herndon and Loudoun Valley.
The Hornets only have to finish in the top eight to make the postseason. The Vikings have to get into the top four.
Loudoun Valley, then, is more desperate for a win.
Last week, Herndon put up a valiant effort at Oakton. With three-year starter Zack Ozycz in sweatpants on the sideline, the Hornets were within one point of the Cougars at the half.
Oakton, though, broke the game open with a 97-yard, half-opening kickoff return for a score and never looked back.
Regardless of Ozycz’ health, the key to a Herndon win is slowing Valley junior quarterback Andrew Taylor.
He has 1,060 passing yards this year with 12 touchdowns to nine interceptions at 6.88 yards per attempt.
Look to Hornet seniors Devon Thompson and Randoll Anane to amp up their efforts, leading this talented secondary.
These teams have not met in the last 12 seasons.
