(July 28, 2009) – The Greater Loudoun U14 Babe Ruth team enjoyed a final practice on a sunny evening in Ashburn Monday night prior to hitting the road for the Southeast Regional in Florida.
The young Lions — most of them are either rising freshmen or sophomores in high school with Heritage, Loudoun Valley, Paul VI and Stone Bridge all represented — earned the right to play at Fernandina Beach, Fla. after a dramatic win in the Virginia state tournament at Colonial Heights a week ago.
Greater Loudoun started the summer slow with three losses at a tournament and then dropped the opener in the district series with Stafford but bounced back to make it to the state tournament. In the state tournament the Lions had three come from behind wins and then an incredible 11-inning victory over rival McLean/Falls Church in the title game after dropping an earlier game to the Fairfax County nine. The Southeast Regional is being host at Fernandina Beach in Florida, near Jacksonville.
Greater Loudoun has gotten a bye on the first day and will open play on Friday July 31 at 2:30 p.m. against the winner of Nassau (Bahamas) vs. Longwood (FL).
